The first run downloads the AI runtime and the model — a few megabytes — and compiles it for your graphics card. Your browser caches both, so from the second image on, an upscale takes seconds rather than a wait for a download.
Yes, within a limit. Output is capped at 4096 pixels on the longest side, so a 1024px image at 4× or a 2048px image at 2× both come out at 4096px — 4K-class resolution. Larger sources are scaled down first, so a bigger file does not produce a bigger result.
Yes. It runs in the browser on iOS and Android with nothing to install. Recent phones use their GPU; older ones fall back to a slower CPU path. To stay within a phone’s memory the tool may scale a very large photo down before upscaling, and 4× on a big image can take a while.
It sharpens edges and adds plausible texture — hair, fabric, lettering — so a soft or slightly small image comes out noticeably crisper. It cannot invent detail that was never captured: heavy blur, motion smear or a tiny thumbnail will look cleaner but not sharp. For photos 2× is usually the safer choice; 4× suits graphics and small sources.
